Dag ouwe vriend

Toch weer iets heel anders.

Vanity searches on Google

Google nowadays offers personalized search results, which means that when you do a vanity search, you will ALWAYS find yourself on the top of the listings. Which makes it hard to find out where you really stand.

I had to log out, and clear my cache and everything in order to get something of a fair search result, when I did a vanity search to find my own weblog.

I found my Flickr page and Twitter page quite quickly (on the first page). But this weblog is currently on page 5.

And on top of that, I have competition with my name.

  • A French singer-songwriter is also called Madjo
  • and there is Guy Madjo who plays football.
  • I also found an English company called Madjo.co.uk, which provides software services.

But I’m none of those people, I’m MadJo from The Netherlands, have been calling myself ‘MadJo‘ since before 2005.

Btw, as an aside, IE8 is a crappy browser to write articles in. The textbox keeps scrolling when you mouse over the buttons of the editor in WordPress.

Unladen swallows

This morning, when I got to the trainstation, I noticed a large number of birds were out.

Among them quite a few swallows. And they flew rather erratic. It was windy and it seemed like they were playing with the wind.

That thought brought a smile on my face.

Sadly, though, they flew too quickly to take a photo of them.

The Apprentice

Whenever I watch The Apprentice on the BBC, I wonder why these ‘executives’ look so dumb. Is that the editing by the BBC, or are they really clueless of the world?

Perhaps young people like that shouldn’t become managers immediately. Sure, there are brilliant people out there, that can do it, but a bit of knowledge what you’re managing doesn’t hurt.

Unmentioned traffic jam

Getting stuck in traffic is never fun, but getting stuck in traffic in a jam that was not mentioned on traffic reports on the radio is even more annoying. And if it happens twice during the same commute, it’s even worse.

Verschillende talen

Unfinished thoughts

I sometimes try to write stories. Usually I have a middle, but no beginning or end to them though. I want to collect them under the category of Unfinished Thoughts.

The first one of such stories after the break.

My Linux desktop

I3 desktop
I3 desktop
This is what my desktop looks like

What you see here is a chatclient (irssi), vlc in another corner, and a terminal emulator running alsamixer.

The window manager is called I3. Which is a tiling window manager. First window you open is opened in full screen, any other window gets added next to it or underneath it.

BTW, for the eagle-eyes among us, the background that’s shown in the VLC video is a photo from the trainstation in Den Bosch.
